Register for Workers Compensation Insurance All businesses which have employees must carry this insurance to cover on the job injuries. Contact a private insurer or Montana State Fund P.O. Montana does not issue general business licenses! Apply for Professional Licenses as necessary. The State of Montana requires that certain professions be licensed. To determine if you need to obtain a professional license, contact the Department of Labor, Professional and Occupational Licensing Bureau at 406-841-2300 Local Licensing Requirements: Requirements change from time to time. Always contact City Halls, County Clerks or Tribal Governments for updates. Presently, the City of Chinook requires a city license to do electrical or plumbing work or to sell alcoholic beverages. Also the city of Havre requires a city license to sell alcoholic beverages. The counties of Blaine, Chouteau and Hill have no license requirements at this time. The Rocky Boy reservation does require a business license. Contact the Chippewa Cree Tribal office at 395-4478 or 395-4282. The Fort Belknap Reservation has no business license at this time. Zoning and building permits: Check with appropriate city or county zoning office to make certain that the use proposed for the building is approved. |
